Book Review -- "For the Tough Times"

It had been quite some time since I head read any of Max Lucado’s books and, wow, I sure have been missing out. His insights into crisis, difficulty and pain were amazing. On a personal note, this little book was very timely for me as I had experienced a pretty difficult season in my life when this book arrived…what a God-send. If you are anyone else is going through some kind of trial, get this book in their hands…it may revolutionize how they look at the valleys in their spiritual journey with Jesus. I have been a christian for over 30 years. Yet I have never seen the insights into pain and suffering that I found in this little book.

I have never read a bad Lucado book…if there could be an anointing ascribed to writing, the I believe Lucado would personify it. I am thankful to have read this and would highly recommend it to any Jesus-follower who needs or wants to new perspective on the “tough times.”

New Year -- My Thoughts

It's a new year with new opportunities. Yet I can't help but reflect on 2008. Here are the things that stand out in my mind...in no particular order:

OBAMA
It came as no surprise to me that he got elected as our next president. I think he has a huge task on his hands. He will need more than great speeches and Oprah's friendship to get the job done.

MICHAEL PHELPS
Can you believe the entire nation was glued to the TV to watch a SWIMMER??? Normally I wouldn't care to. Phelps made me really want to. I believe I saw history which may not repeat itself in my lifetime.

SARAH PALIN
It's no secret, if you know me, that I am a HUGE fan of this woman. I believe she was the true star of the Republican Party this past election and we WILL see her again...bank on that.

THE ECONOMY
Wow...words cannot express the concern I have for the economy in our country. I have a feeling 2008 was just the tip of the iceberg. I hope I am wrong.

BATMAN
What an awesome flick. Even my wife wanted to see it again! And have we ever seen a better comic book bad guy than "The Joker?"

DOUG CLAY/JOHN WOOTTON
We had a transition in the Assembly of God's leadership team here in Ohio and at our national office as Doug Clay left the Buckeye state and became the new General treasurer for the national A/G. I miss Doug but I know we are now in great hands with our new Superintendent, John Wootton. He will serve God and Ohio well in this role.

PERSONAL
In all honesty, this was a very challenging year for me; but, I am trusting Jesus to give us a great 2009. He is good and He is faithful.

Happy New Year, everyone!
