Book Review--The Great Eight

I really was not sure what to expect upon being sent "The Great Eight: How to Be Happy (even when you have every reason to be miserable)" from Thomas Nelson. Well, rest assured this is not some ordinary book about figure skating or `yet another self-help book.' Scott Hamilton gives us a glimpse into his life and what he has dealt with and was able to rise above.

He deals with his highs and lows in his life and his career and; yet, he does not want to come off like a victim. In fact, he seems to welcome the challenges he has faced in life as opportunities to become...not just a better skater...but a better person. His advice comes from a man who has `been there' and he speaks to all of us regardless of what we may be facing in life.

While it is certainly not solely label this an autobiography, Hamilton uses his own life experiences to greatly illustrate the advice and help he wants to convey...whether he shares on his dealing with other people or his dealing with himself. I greatly appreciate his depth, his sense of humor and his transparency. I think you will find this book inspiring and very much a blessing to you.
